Project Scope

Frameless Glass Staircase – A seamless and visually striking staircase using triple-laminated glass stringers, with precision-cut glass treads and risers.

Wine Room – A temperature-controlled space designed to showcase a fine wine collection while maintaining the perfect storage environment.

Steelwork – Structural reinforcements ensuring durability and stability without compromising the elegant, modern aesthetic.

Mirrors – Strategically placed to enhance the perception of space and light, adding to the sophisticated ambiance

Key Challenges

Full guttering package – The design required a fully integrated guttering system, ensuring superior air and weather performance for the extension.

Rapid installation – The project had to be completed efficiently to meet tight deadlines, ensuring that other contractors could proceed without delay.

Side return pitch – Achieving the correct pitch for the side return was critical to maintaining the structural and aesthetic integrity of the design.

The Brief

Glass Structures Limited collaborated with the project’s architect from the early planning stages, submitting an initial cost proposal for the required works. Upon securing the contract, our team worked closely with the architect to refine the design, ensuring that every detail met the client’s expectations.

Approach

Once the old extension was demolished, our team conducted a comprehensive site visit to assess the project scope and coordinate with the construction team on site. This allowed us to establish a clear plan for integrating our work with the overall build. Our approach included:

Frameless Glass Staircase – The triple-laminated glass stringers featured an outer skin precision-cut to accommodate the glass treads and risers, creating a seamless, floating effect. Each element was meticulously designed to enhance the visual appeal while maintaining strength and stability.
Custom Back-Painted Glass Walls – To conceal essential cooling services, we installed back-painted glass stringers/walls, each weighing over 300kg. This not only maintained the minimalist aesthetic but also ensured optimal functionality for the wine storage environment.
Bespoke Guttering System – As part of our commitment to maintaining the air and weather performance of the extension, we designed and prefabricated a custom gutter system. Crafted from sheet aluminum, it was expertly folded and welded to integrate seamlessly with our frameless roof system.

Now fully completed, the Wine Room project stands as a testament to precision engineering and modern architectural design.

Frameless Oriel Window – This striking feature enhances the minimalist design while adding a captivating visual element. It transforms the space into a year-round retreat, offering a cozy spot to unwind and enjoy a book regardless of the weather.
Side Return Glazing – The frameless glass side return allows natural light to flood the interior, enriching the living experience by creating a bright, open atmosphere.
Seamless Integration – Every element, from the staircase to the wine room and steelwork, was designed with meticulous attention to detail. Through careful planning and expert craftsmanship, we achieved a flawless, high-performance living space.
